Katka and Zachary met each other after individually answering their callings into ministry of Vinesong. They nervously met in the kitchen for the first time on the day of Kate’s arrival to the team – 7/7/2017. It was in that same kitchen that a friendship would be formed through many laughs while clearing up after dinner. 

Kate is originally from Brno, Czech Republic, and joined the team for an interim 2-year period as a teacher and au pair for Reuben. However, near the end of the second year, the team asked her to prayerfully consider a permanent role in the ministry. 

Zachary is originally from the United States and joined Vinesong in 2016. 

For the first year of knowing one another, they barely spoke more than a dozen words on any given day. Both were protective of their ministries and did not want to go ahead of God in starting a relationship. 

However, after the first year, their short conversations became longer, and friendly glances became more frequent. It became obvious to everyone around that God was doing something new. 

Following a few conversations with the rest of the team, they began to court with the intent to marry. It is a strange thing in this day and age to skip ‘dating’ , but both Katka and Zach were resolved to build their relationship on the firm foundation of friendship.

Through much laughter, many tears, a few fights, and a lot of fun, it became increasingly clear that a lifelong commitment to one another was the desire of both hearts.

For several years, Kate insisted that she would one day take Zach to Sky Garden to see London from the most beautiful vantage point. On Valentine’s Day 2022, Zach devised a plan to take Kate on a romantic and (totally !) unsuspecting trip to her favourite lookout point. 

However, that was only the decoy! If Kate was suspecting a proposal here, she was sorely mistaken. 

After a lunch, they left Sky Garden for a stroll around the city. When they reached Hyde Park, a street photographer cautiously approached them – he was looking for couples to photograph on Valentine’s Day for his portfolio. Kate hesitantly agreed, and soon they were walking across the grass into the middle of the lawn. As the photographer began to give direction, Zach stealthily pulled a small black box from his pocket and lowered himself on one knee.

This was the moment that both had waited so long to have. Kate said yes, and here we are!
